ein urfaust projekt - raul gschrey
Born in Frankfurt in 1981. Since 2000 I am studying English and Art Paedagogics at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt. Since a couple of years I am active in the promotion of events like concerts, art exhibitions, readings and theatre in the Frankfurt region and a member of pro-these, a group of independent artists, that offers a platform in order to work together and present artistic output. In film, just as in photography I am committed to analogue formats such as super8 and 16mm. Through their 24 single exposures per second those formats offer special possibilities for experimental films – photography becomes film, film photography.
Transformation and change play a mayor role in the presentation of art. Variations of the source material as well as the relation to the place where the exhibition is shown can change the recipients perception and offer them new perspectives. Just as music, in a concert, art should be recreated and reperceived to open new horizons.
This conviction is central to my sculptural works. I try to go beyond the (picture) frame, to diminish the distance between recipient and work of art. Many of my installations only work through the participation of the audience – the recipient is active in the production of the work of art.
